Chateaugay Woodlands Chateaugay Woodlands (CW) consists of 84,400 acres located just within the northern border of the Adirondack Park in Northern New York. The property was acquired in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) from Domtar, a Canadian forest products company. As part of the transaction TNC purchased an adjoining 20,000 acres which will be sold to the State of New York for inclusion in the Forever Wild section of the Adirondack Park. TNC and the State have also announced their intent to purchase a Working Forest Conservation Easement over the CW property. The easement will restrict the property from further development, will maintain traditional private hunting club leases on the property, will allow public access to 27,000 acres under the terms of a Public Recreation Plan to be developed by the State of New York, and will allow continued sustainable forest management by CW and successor owners. The property’s forest management practices have been certified that they adhere to the principles and criteria of The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
