Clarion Timber Company The Lyme Northern Forest Fund owns 22,134 acres in 59 parcels scattered across northwestern Pennsylvania. Clarion is Lyme’s most valuable holding because the tracts are in an unusually productive hardwood region of the U.S., particularly renowned for the quality of its black cherry. Black cherry is in high demand for the furniture industry and there has been an unrelenting escalation in its price in recent years. The lands have been well managed for value accretion and there are numerous opportunities to enhance returns through real estate sales and conservation transactions. Among the potential conservation transactions are several in-holdings in the Allegheny National Forest, river frontage along the Clarion River (a popular canoeing and fishing river), and an abandoned railroad right-of-way that is of interest to the local Rails-to-Trails group.
