FORESTLAND INVESTING — WHAT WE DO

The Lyme Timber Company is one of the oldest and most experienced forestland investment firms in the country. Since its founding in 1976, Lyme has established an extensive track record, having purchased over 950,000 acres in fourteen states in the Northeast, the Lake States, and the Southeast. Current holdings total over 660,000 acres.

Lyme is a conservative, value-oriented investor that understands the cyclical nature of forestland investing. Our goal is not to simply place money in the timberland asset class, but to invest in forestland tracts with compelling qualities and values not fully recognized by others.

Over the past 16 years the Company has developed extensive experience and a strategic investment niche in properties with unique conservation values. This emphasis has become one of the Company’s most important strategies. Entering into purchases in partnership with conservation organizations or government entities that are willing to purchase some of the non-timber values inherent in a property, reduces cost and risk to both Lyme and its conservation partners, and can lead to favorable economic and conservation results. The Company has completed over 70 conservation dispositions (fee sales and easements) from its investment inventory, resulting in enhanced returns and the permanent conservation of over 450,000 acres of important forestland.

Lyme’s focus on properties with conservation value tends to mean it invests in naturally regenerating forests. And, because the Company’s historic geographic focus has been in the northeastern United States, its timber inventory is largely northern hardwoods.

In 2007, Lyme established a relationship with Ecosystems Investment Partners (EIP, an investment firm established to invest in the developing markets of "ecosystems services".

Lyme’s consulting division, LTC Conservation Advisory Services, is complementary to the Company’s investment niche. The two arms of the business lead to many synergies. For more information please Contact Us.
