Third Party Certification Lyme Timber has achieved third-party certification under both of the principle certification systems currently operating in the United States - the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The Lyme Northern Forest Fund's two largest properties—Connecticut Lakes in New Hampshire and Chateaugay Woodlands in the Adirondack Park in New York—have both been certified by Smartwood under FSC guidelines. These two properties comprise by far the largest part of the acreage purchased in the Fund. The FSC system is an international standard developed by the World Wildlife Fund and other leading environmental organizations active in promoting sustainable forestry. The largest property in the Lyme Forest Fund - the Lyme Adirondack Forestry Company - is certified under the guidelines of SFI pursuant to a pulpwood supply agreement with International Paper. SFI was developed initially by the American Forest and Paper Association, an industry trade group. However it is now fully independent and its standards are very similar to FSC. This property is also in the process of being certified to the FSC standard. LFF's recent investment on the Cumberland Plateau in northeastern Tennessee is also in the process of being certified under FSC guidelines.
